Buffalo facilities must have solid sides on all fences, chutes, gates, and pens. Fences and chutes must be 7 feet 2. For safety reasons, Dr. Grandin has designed chutes featuring a toe hold and grab rails to provide an escape route for handlers. Join up is a round pen method that is meant to bring a horse’s attention to the trainer, establish a sense of trust, and get the horse to allow the trainer to handle it. A horse’s fear and natural flight instincts are what join up is meant to overcome, so that the horse willingly accepts a trainer’s presence, touch, and handling. It establishes a good foundation for all other training.
Cylindrical Design No Cornering The cylindrical design of this bait basket will prolong the life of any bait fish that likes to swim because there are no corners or even vertical supports for them to swim into commonly called cornering and hurt themselves. This includes menhaden, herring, sardines, mullet, silver jennies and many others. The basket offered here is brand new, has never been in the water. The frame is solid not flexible conduit PVC pipe and fixtures all solvent welded.
All net and ties are of UV resistant plastic for many years of use in direct sun. Fully opened the bait pen measures 24 inches in diameter by 24 inches tall about 47 gallons but by removing the center rod store it in the collapsed bait pen the bait pen will collapse to just 8 inches high including handle by 24 inches around for storage. I wrap the dock line 10 feet included around the collapsed bait basket to keep it secured in the collapsed state.
It is quickly returned to full height by inserting the center rod into the top and bottom fixtures in the center of the basket. An elastic lanyard is stretched over the handle to keep the lid firmly closed but is easily grabbed by the plastic ball on the lanyard for ease of releasing the cover when netting your bait fish. High Density Polyethylene Netting — Rugged, Durable, Long Lasting A foam column is attached on the top, inside bait to keep the basket afloat when in the water.
It is attached inside the basket to keep it from catching and tearing on dock pilings, boat motors, rocks or anything sharp it may come into contact with.

A round pen can be bought in packaged sizes ranging from 40 to 80 feet in diameter. What you are going to be using the round pen for will determine the size of the round pen you require. If you’re just looking for a small area for a turn-out for a horse, you can opt for the smaller size such as a 40’.
I do think it makes the right thing easy–at least, if you’re a horse. You see, I discovered “join-up” quite by accident. Before knowing that there were people in the horse world introducing the method, it was something my horses and I were doing on our own. It started as a way to get the horse’s attention–when I first got them, my mares were so pair-bonded that they got panicky if separated. I took them individually to the arena, asked the horse to move on if she wasn’t listening, and let up if she did.
Eventually I noticed a pattern: If I dropped the lunge whip, she’d walk right up to me. It became a game. She’d dash around the arena, keeping an eye on me I’d change her direction every so often to make sure she didn’t overstress. She’d bounce, play, do this Pepe le Pew kind of hop, buck or rear if she felt like it I still do this most rides. Some days when we aren’t doing anything else, we’ll take both mares out together and play this way.
When she really gets into it, she stops and turns to face me every so often, gives this huge snort, and takes off again. I’m sure she’s asking me to get more into the play–but I really can’t run that fast, nor am I able to withstand equine bodyslams the way my mares can with each other.

History[ edit ] Early prototypes of reservoir pens[ edit ] An early historical mention of what appears to be a reservoir pen dates back to the 10th century. According to Ali Abuzar Mari d. Leonardo’s journals contain drawings with cross-sections of what appears to be a reservoir pen that works by both gravity and capillary action. Historians also took note of the fact that the handwriting in the inventor’s surviving journals is of a consistent contrast throughout, rather than the characteristic fading pattern typical of a quill pen caused by expending and re-dipping.
While no physical item survives, several working models were reconstructed in by artist Amerigo Bombara that have since been put on display in museums dedicated to Leonardo. Klein and Henry W. Wynne received US patent in for an ink chamber and delivery system in the handle of the fountain pen European reservoir models[ edit ] Deliciae physico-mathematicae, The fountain pen was available in Europe in the 17th century, and is shown by contemporary references.
In Deliciae Physico-Mathematicae a magazine , German inventor Daniel Schwenter described a pen made from two quills. One quill served as a reservoir for ink inside the other quill. The ink was sealed inside the quill with cork.

How to Choose the Correct Round Pen Footing Just as you wouldn’t put down a dirt floor in your bathroom, there are certain issues you should think through when deciding what type of footing to use in your round pen. Too often we don’t give this enough thought, or tend to go with the cheapest option, only to have to redo it or pay for our choice many times over in the future. Remember, your round pen footing is the cushion layer.
It will absorb shock and help protect your horse from injury. The cheapest and easiest is natural grass or dirt. Though it has the advantage of being a natural footing, it also comes with many drawbacks.

Easy to setup no post holes to dig or fence pullers to operate Livestock Panel Cons: They can have sharp edges where the panels are cut. Harder to transport without bending. So having a good relationship with a friend or neighbor who has a 16″ trailer is a major plus. Once bent to a certain degree the livestock panels will maintain a bit of the bend. They can be moved by one person though 2 people does make it a lot easier and secured with t-posts and wire in a short amount of time.
With just 4 panels you can create a fairly sizable space to keep an initial set of goats or other small livestock secure and protected. They are also portable enough that your can move them every so often for rotational grazing or used for brush control and fire lines. One of the nicest aspects of this type of shelter is that is goes up very quickly and does not require any building permits to install.
This flexible design can easily be made longer by adding additional panels and tarps.
